If you don't have a summer staple just yet, this might inspire you

Having a staple item in your wardrobe can really take the stress out of deciding what outfit to wear. From casual looks to formal looks, everyone has that one go-to - whether it's because it brings extra comfort or because a look just isn't complete without it.

Many people even become recognisable for their favourite reliable piece and it becomes part of their signature look such as Kim Kardashian and her long glove looks, Cara Delevigne and her trouser suits, Miley Cyrus' love for crop tops - even Pharrell Williams and his enormous hats.

We went to speak to shoppers in Manchester city centre to see what their staple summer item is as part of our series, Steal Their Style.

Nicole Müller

What was striking about Nicole Müller's outfit was what first appeared to be a modern twist on ribbons worn by legendary fictional character Matilda. The 28-year-old, who is originally from Austria, had matched her hair piece perfectly to her cropped, tie-up blue top.

"I'm a mix-and-matcher, so half the things I'm wearing I genuinely don't even remember where they're from. I just kinda throw them together!

"The scarf however, belonged to my grandmother. She passed away a while back, but she had a whole collection of scarves - so I just repurpose them now," Nicole said.

"This necklace is actually belonging to my boyfriend, he got it and never wore it so I started wearing it," Nicole laughed. One man's trash is another's treasure, as they say!

Nicole also wears a choker with a unique glass cross on it. "The cross is from Venice where they make Murano glass. A friend of mine went on holiday and he said he thought of me when he saw it."

Genevieve Marsay

Genevieve Marsay, visiting Manchester for the day from Leeds, wears a classic little black dress. The 28-year-old had a balance of grunge mixed with a touch of Boho style which she achieved with her black Doc Martens and chic belt.

"I got my dress from ASOS which I've paired with a belt I found in a vintage shop. I'm also wearing a air of double sole Docs which you just can't go wrong with." Genevieve said.

Thinking of what her must-have summer piece would be, Genevieve decided on "a nice cheeky summer dress".

Charlotte Cooper

Genevieve's friend, Charlotte Cooper from Sheffield, had a very on trend outfit on. In contrast to her friends LBD, Charlotte opted for rolled up cargos. The 29-year-old rocked an edgier style with the addition of her long chained belt and safety pinned t-shirt.

"My trousers are ASOS but they didn't come with the belt - a girl I know made a pair of trousers and the chain came with them, but these trousers I'm wearing now were falling off me so I grabbed the belt to throw on," Charlotte laughed.

Charlotte pointed to the safety pins on her top which she said she did herself, taking out the lace that came tied up in the top - a great style tip if you're looking to upcycle something you've worn a thousand times. Charlotte said her summer must-have has to be "a good pair of cut off shorts and a crop top - crop tops are always a winner."

Sam and Michelle

Fit and fabulous flight attendants Sam Naylor and Michelle Adarkwa have flown into Manchester for one night, and one night only.

The fabulous ladies got all glammed up as they enjoyed their day off to bask in the Manchester sun.

Michelle, 40, who is from London, was on the hunt for a bougie spot to grab a drink with her friend - and she was dressed for the occasion. Her outfit is pulled from places such as New Look and Boohoo with her hot pink jacket stealing the show.

For Michelle, high waist shorts are an essential to any summer wardrobe.

Sam, 39 from Sheffield has a black co-ord on with shorts crafted from a flowing material, however it's her kimono that stands out. When you pack a carry on, you have to be very selective about what you're bringing, but Sam says "it's in my bag wherever I fly", and swears by this summer staple.
